Talking of charities, the family of grifters that were Captain Tom’s relatives have lost their appeal against the spa demolition.
It' a mess.
There has been some ill-feeling generated by the building, not just from the people in the houses behind. There's been a bit of 'us and them' going on that wasn't the case when Tom was alive and the family hosted the annual fete in the front garden (that stopped about 5 years ago). I think the family's connection to the village was lost when Tom became frail.
The people in the houses behind looked onto mature trees along the boundary. These were removed to build the 'spa'. I know the family has been told to take down the building and restore the garden but how does anyone replace mature trees?

It means there is a level of "self determination", where the caller is in control of what they do and the decisions they make (except for in the case of a safe guarding issue, where emergency services can be called if enough information is known)
I was a Sam's volunteer for a while and completely agree that the anonymity element is critical to people's confidence in the service.
Example - a young teenage caller who had taken an overdose. I spent most of the shift with the person because they didn't want to die alone but refused to give me any information to enable help to be directed to them. That fire-break is critical to some people. If the number had gone through to social services I think the caller would have been alone during their last hours rather than risk being detained for their own safety.

That's so sad, Helegant. Thank you for doing that.

I'm currently transfixed be the culture battle du jour the government has created.
Pressuring the Met to ban protests calling for a ceasefire in Palestine this weekend.
And I have to give credit to Rowley for resisting and indeed saying no. I'm convinced his predecessor would have signed off on the home secs request in a blink.
It may be a storm in a tea cup, I may be wrong, it may go to the heart of the matter.
Braverman, who I think is driving this as part of a far right leadership bid, is perhaps trying to figure out if she can override the Mets decision and how that would look
