The identity you coalesce around can mean you're more likely to cause/ seek conflict/ harm though.

I've met plenty of people in my years running who have expressed outright hostility to runners, maybe not demonstrating against us, but certainly wanting to give a piece of their reactionary and negative mindset with gems like "we're all going to die someday so why bother". It's not like I ran up to them and said "oi why are you standing there, you're obviously unhealthy and lazy so get out and do some exercise". Although occasionally I've bloody felt like saying it tho. |

I have no doubt that running has fantastic health benefits, physical and mental.

Denial is a necessary part of their otherwise sociopathic worldview. My mother claims to believe that food banks are just giving handouts to lazy/stupid/otherwise worthless people. If she was led to believe that her political choices had (in small part) contributed to a catastrophic increase in poverty and hardship over the past decade or so then she might be forced to change her views, so it's more comfortable for her to deny the evidence. I'm sure she is far from unique. |

Going to war and having a disagreement or protests, etc, over something are two very different things. Not sure I’ve yet seen a war about climate change. Nor a variety of other social, philosophical positions etc.
