Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

The identity you coalesce around can mean you're more likely to cause/ seek conflict/ harm though.

I've met plenty of people in my years running who have expressed outright hostility to runners, maybe not demonstrating against us, but certainly wanting to give a piece of their reactionary and negative mindset with gems like "we're all going to die someday so why bother".

It's not like I ran up to them and said "oi why are you standing there, you're obviously unhealthy and lazy so get out and do some exercise". Although occasionally I've bloody felt like saying it tho.

I have no doubt that running has fantastic health benefits, physical and mental.

It is quite appalling that anyone holds this view.

Denial is a necessary part of their otherwise sociopathic worldview.

My mother claims to believe that food banks are just giving handouts to lazy/stupid/otherwise worthless people. If she was led to believe that her political choices had (in small part) contributed to a catastrophic increase in poverty and hardship over the past decade or so then she might be forced to change her views, so it's more comfortable for her to deny the evidence.

I'm sure she is far from unique.

Going to war and having a disagreement or protests, etc, over something are two very different things. Not sure I’ve yet seen a war about climate change. Nor a variety of other social, philosophical positions etc.
