A most won't think they are sowing hate and discord, they are trying to create a world lives via the guidance of their scriptures (some of it being explicit, others by interpretation). The ultimate way of doing that is codifying it into law.

if I was in his position, I’d have done the same. I'm in that quandry right now. In July/August 2022 my running ground to a halt. It took many weeks even to get a local GP appointment, and then there was a wait of several weeks between each of the stages of referral for x-ray, review, letter to GP, GP review, referral to hospital physio, referral to scan, review of scan, letter to me, phone review with hospital, referral to consultant. Yesterday I received a letter telling me that the consultant had reviewed the letter and placed me on a 38 week waiting list for a face-to-face appointment to discuss surgery. Then, if I'm lucky, I'll join the waiting list for surgery which, I gather, is at least 2 years. I was just over 66 when this started, and I could be over 70 by the time this is addressed. I can, apparently, have use painkiller and walking aids while I wait. On the other hand, a friend of mine has just had a hip replacement paid for by his employer's medical insurance. He was running up to the day before the operation and was walking again the following day. He has remained fit and healthy and expects to take around 6 weeks before starting to run again. The options are bleak for those without any savings. And I have a big decision to make. |

I think this is what the govt wants. The rich buy what they want and the poor get what they're given as the NHS is slowly strangled. It's working.

I don’t think you have any choice but to look after yourself. But I wish the cost and inconvenience was visited on those who voted for it rather than randomly.

On the plus side it’ll be mostly pensioners so a decent correlation but far from 100%. My mother spent an hour or two sitting on a pavement waiting for ambulance after tripping over not so long ago and also had a long long wait for a hip replacement a while back. But she votes Tory so <shrug>.

After consideration, I will substitute the phrase "bible basher" for "Christian Zionist British Imperialist", which is both more accurate and hopefully less offensive. The more I read about the history of Israel's roots in 19th century Britain, the more Israel's creation seems an exercise in imperialism, akin to the East India Company on whom the original ideas were modelled on (according to the article I posted previously!!!). None of this helps solve current problems, but it explains some of what we see now, in particular... I was very struck by journalist/author Ta-Nehisi Coates lengthy description of his visit to Hebron and how powerfully he draws lines between segregation and Jim Crow era segregation in the United States: twitter.com I've noticed a lot of push back from pro-Israeli voices on saying Israel practices apartheid, but I'm not sure what else their tiered/vote denying system could be counted as? |

Happy, my point wasn't just that political forces twist and capitalise on religious beliefs (although there's plenty of that), but that if religious folk hold unpleasant beliefs, the only people they're hurting themselves, without the political/military power to impose those beliefs on others.

It doesn’t take a lot of political or military power to bully children under your control.

No, but to bully the children you've generally had to conquer the adults to allow their offspring to be in your control, to some degree. Whether that is by sleight of hand or convenience, e.g. by being the only people willing to operate a school in a locality, therefore getting "gifted" the learners without too much thought, religions are good at getting in early though, I would agree.
