Ditto.

I do agree with Fields, that this conversation is becoming extremely circular not just here but elsewhere. What's done is done.

Changing tack entirely, barges, acceptable or not?

I'm astonished to see a YouGov poll that more than twice as many people see them as acceptable than not.

Agree it's getting circular.

Also if you've blocked someone, the point is not to engage, not to keep poking at them without right of reply.

I don't have a problem with barges per se, after all they're not uncommon in certain setting/applications.

What I do have a problem with is making them as over crowded as possible to make them as unappealing as possible which is what's been done here.

Deliberately ramming people into overcrowded accomadation, be it barges, ex army barracks, hotels or prisons is unhumane.

I really feel it's more important to ask "what should be done now and in the future" rather than going over the past. Obviously we are informed by what has happened before, but don't think it helps to dwell on or to apportion blame. Anyhoo...

Floating accommodation can be fine - million pound yachts seem quite nice! ;-) But as richmac says, it's making it into hamster cages, with doubled up bunk beds and so on, that is so unpleasant.

The reason for the huge numbers of asylum seekers who are still awaiting determination as to their applications is the government's massive backlog and failure to accept the huge numbers and to adequately resource. And remember that the vast majority of applications are granted - these are legitimate applicants who are being help for months and months because of poor admin and resourcing.
