It's not even saved by rising asset values fozzy, we need rising productivity in real terms. We all have to eat, more pensioners and fewer farmers means the latter all have to produce a lot more food each (it's not just food, that's just an example). Of course this has happened historically and is happening now to some extent, but UK productivity is notoriously weak thanks to limited investment. Deferring your consumption by putting your money in a pension still relies on there being someone to supply the consumables in the future. |

We all have to eat, more pensioners and fewer farmersโฆ. Removing a comma makes that read quite differently. โWe all have to eat more pensioners and fewer farmersโ. |

I don't eat bacon. Please don't refer to twitter links without summarising (for me!) cos I'll never see them! The whole principle of productivity (capitalism really) is flawed. It's based on labour adding value to raw materials to make goods whose value is greater than the original raw material. But it's actually a myth - the cup doesn't hold the water. It only works if we consume the materials (i.e. don't put back) and/or exploit the worker. Otherwise the value of the item at the end must include the cost of *replacing* the raw material and the labour of the worker and no "profit". Anyhoo, I'm going to stop with this anti-capitalist rant! (Pretty civilised for a rant though!) G |

Hmmm. twitter.com When I saw the post I assumed it was some amusing meme. Outrageous that it is true. (For HG, it is a post by the Electoral Reform Society pointing out that the the Oyster Card 60+ will be an acceptable voter ID document, whereas the Oyster Card 18+ won't be, along with a link to a more detailed article that says the govt overrulled amendments which would have made some other forms of ID that younger voters would commonly have valid as ID docs for voting purposes) |

Sorry, I dont follow your logic Happy ๐ค๐ Sure, you will get more profit if the worker is exploited... ... however that is not the process employed; goods have a value, resellers add cost to the goods to cover their input (time etc) and add profit. The value of goods is only what another person is prepared to pay for it. |
