I saw the ID thing last week, here's a list of valid ID for English voters Passport Driving licence Older person's bus pass Disabled person's bus pass Oyster 60+ card Freedom (66+) pass It's similar for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. As much as it's totally loaded towards older voters, didn't realise the difference in Oyster ID until today. Hmmm. Wonder why the Tories would do this?! |

(although the 'validation' for an Oyster 18 card is basically 'a student email address', whereas for an Oyster 60+ it's a driving license or passport copy. They seemed to leave that bit out of twitter) And then : Productivity, which is basically 'doing more with less'. Like LED lights compared to incandescent ones. Or removing redundant or unnecessary steps. Or getting better yield from the same raw materials. Or tools to automate or replicate, like a chainsaw replacing handsaws. Not always 'exploiting' anyone. |

Yep, I did anticipate that the 60+ card did need some validation. There are some other valid IDs to the list paul put above (in England) A passport issued by the UK, any of the Channel Islands, the Isle of Man, a British Overseas Territory, an EEA state or a Commonwealth country A driving licence issued by the UK, any of the Channel Islands, the Isle of Man or an EEA state A biometric Immigration document An identity card bearing the Proof of Age Standards Scheme hologram (a PASS card) Ministry of Defence Form 90 (Defence Identity Card) A Blue Badge A national identity card issued by an EEA state An Older Person’s Bus Pass A disabled person’s Bus Pass An Oyster 60+ card A Freedom Pass A Voter Authority Certificate or a temporary Voter Authority Certificate Plus other Scotland, Wales and NI specific documents for non-English voters. Still, pretty abhorrent that they're trying to manipulate the vote like this. Fingers crossed that the outcome will be that hordes of Tory voting pensioners will forget their ID on election day and / or get in a strop about valid ID being requested as "they've not had to do this before" and the whole thing backfires. |

It's also a sledgehammer to crack the tiniest walnut though. I know total crime figures doesn't represent a potential true scale of voter fraud, but when there were a mere 6 cases of voter fraud at the last election, it's an entirely unnecessary (purposeful disenfranchisement) step. |

Just standard Trump/Republican voter disenfranchisement stuff. Nothing new. In other news, Hunt basically admitting that leaving the EU has harmed the UK and that joining the SM would be the simplest way to boost growth, I told you the Tories would turn back towards rejoining <something> while Labour are still fantasising about Brexit unicorns. (yes I know they haven't turned yet, nothing like it, but at least one or two of them have some vague tethering to reality.) |

It's amazing though how many people on twitter seem to think the ballots are stuffed full of fraudulent papers. I wonder where they started to get those sorts of ideas from... Even postal voting gets people hot and bothered; the amusing sight of right wingers complaining on behalf of disenfranchised women from households with a culture of male dominance that they're forced to put in postal votes for their husband or local community leader's first choice candidate etc. |

As I like to point out to people, voting is such a waste of time the amazing thing is that people bother to do it at all, the idea that anyone sane would risk the substantial penalties for the dubious "benefit" of voting more than once is bonkers.
