The confidence vote. It means they can't challenge him for another year. Mid 2023, the economy will be in worse condition then, and calling a later election waiting for conditions to improve never works (Brown, Major, Callaghan). He could well just to go to the voters knowing he's dead once the year is out. There would be no point in him waiting to see if he was going to get ousted, so he might as well call one.

Ah. I doubt owt will happen to put the kibosh on QE2's big shindig. It could be anything from a damp squib to a wipe out for him. If he wins it will be a catastrophe for the country and a catastrophe for the Tories. Not bothered about the latter but the former bothers me greatly. This is probably their only chance to lance the boil and if they don't I *believe* utter destruction will fall upon their heads in 2024. He is irredeemable and he will only get worse if he is emboldened by victory in the ballot. |

He could go completely balls to the wall and call another general election. Sounds mad but not even an honest Tory would pursue an NC if a campaign was on and Jonson might see it as a chance to deselect anyone who has criticised him. The guy is probably narcissistic enough to think he would win. |

LOL. Not got to 54 letters yet to have the vote that he's going to win. And then just carry on regardless. |

and now Starmer and Rayner have received questionnaires from Durham police. bbc.co.uk If they've learned anything from partygate, they should just fail to respond. |

Very much hope they won't play games. They need to play it by the book - that's the principles they stand by.

All it means is the Durham constabulary has finally ambled round to investigating. Will be fun to see what the Express/Mail say tomorrow. |

The 54 letters has been breached according to some journos on Twitter being briefed by "reliable sources". But the perfect scenario emerges. Starmer/Rayner forced to resign - Andy Burnham gets to stand (if he's got any sense), Johnson battles on to face Labour's most popular politican at the ballot box, after Labour show their principles and Tories show they are morally bankrupt.
