(Leon's quite nice but the last couple of times I had lunch there, I was still peckish afterwards. It's got as far as Manchester and Leeds so it's on its way Caledonia-wards, HG! ![]() |

I wish there was a lot less (in life, but also here) of labelling other people in somewhat of a different place on the political spectrum as "Hard Left" or "Far Right". Wanting higher taxes for those who can afford to pay, better pay for nurses and teachers, and a more welcoming immigration & asylum policy is not "Hard Left". Wanting lower taxes, maintaining Trident, and wanting to leave the EU is not "Far Right" either. I think we should try and do less immediate labelling and knee-jerk reacting. I'm guilty too - whenever I hear anyone arguing for lower taxes, my instant reaction is to assume they're motivated by their own financial gain. Maybe they are, but it's poor form to assume that. |

To write something that adequately conveys meaning without ambiguity, counter points and argues a case; personally I think to engage in this requires quite a bit of time, effort and emotional energy. I don't have that everyday so hence reserving posting for topics of particular interest to me. In terms of where my politics lie, well, years ago it would have be Labour or Lib dem but they have no chance for several reasons. Politically homeless. How do I perceive the interaction on the thread? If the posters were together IRL, then I imagine it as a boisterous gathering over drinks (coffee house of old, or pub), disagreeing, a bit of talking over each other. No punch ups, some muttering under the breath about X on the way home, with the occasional nod acknowledging a point well made. Rather like the poets here blackadder.fandom.com |

Hm...I think you really have to acknowledge that Leeds is pretty near to the middle. Ok there's a largely empty wasteland in the very top end of Scotland, but Leeds is within about 250 miles of the overwhelming majority of the population (and eg closer to Inverness than it is to Penzance, at least by road according to google maps).

I rather like the idea of the coffee house / pub. Chrisull as the landlord and fetcheryone on the door making sure everyone behaves.

Errr, excuuuuuse me - large empty wasteland?! That's RooA and slowboy's home, that is. And a few other folk. And some sheep. And very gorgeous mountains. And very valuable water, tidal energy sources, and offshore and onshore wind sources, thank you very much. Dismiss it at your peril! Ahem. ![]() |
