Shark the Herald Angel
As someone who doesn't post but had read most entries for several years I find the 'hard left' label almost laughable. Naturally it depends on where one positions oneself (get me with 'one') on the political spectrum.

VERY recently - in Fetch terms - the tone has become left leaning, but Chrisull is correct about the history here. Tony and QMac - CRIKEY!

Depressing to read that article. No surprise really with the level of selfishness within society.

To think that the county of Wat Tyler is now a far right stronghold as shown by UKIP support in the area.

(SN - There was also the voiced regret that there hadn't been an early-20th-century revolution in the UK to sweep out the establishment. I didn't have the emotional energy to argue that one at the time).

um - stating the obvious but it's not good if you (and other centrist? centre-right? ) posters don't feel like this is a comfortable space to express your views.

At the risk of delving into semantics, much of my fury at the current government (both the Cummings and Johnson variants) is that they've abandoned much of what's good about conservatism - respect for and support of institutions, upholding the rule of law, establishing standards of decency in public life. When I think of an archetypal conservative, I think of the likes of Dominic Grieve or David Gauke, not Johnson, Cummings, et al. Johnson's a right-wing populist, which is not necessarily a conservative position, in my view.

I suspect Stander and TMW would regard me as a communist, and I suspect Fields would regard me as a convervative-enabling lickspittle. I presume that makes me a centre-left liberal. :)

there have been several liberals I can name indulging in foul mouthed tirades on here as well. (And I'm not thinking of DeeGee)

Well, fuck you then! ;-)

Not Mushroom at the Inn
There is a bit of slagging off as to why anyone could vote for the Conservatives, and I guess it doesn't make it easy for readers to join in, and I say that as someone who has voted for all parties over the years.

However, I agree with Doogs, I don't see the current Government as representatives of the past Conservatives - which were much more towards the centre (as a whole). This current party has been hijacked by both the far right in pushing the anti immigration message, and other chancers trying to exploit circumstances for their own benefit (such as JRM and off shore tax evasion).

The truth is though that 70% of the electorate did not vote for them in 2019. The chances are that most of us on here aren't supportive of them..?
