Tim Montgomerie (founder of conservative home) and influential in upper Tory circles has apparently joined Reform... He's right wing, but I hadn't considered him quite that far right wing. |

Montgomerie presumably realises that the Conservative Party is dying, and has decided to move to where the action (and Musk's $100 million) is. But let's say Reform gain some more votes, the Tories lose some, so they're even polling or maybe Reform a bit ahead. Doesn't that pretty well guarantee a Labour victory in a general election? The Tories have won far more elections than they should have done considering they're never that popular overall, it's just that the right wing vote has not been split, unlike the left of centre vote. But this splits it right down the middle.

Couple of opinion polls last week make that more stark too: Labour 25 to 29%; Conservative 25 to 27%; Reform 18 to 22%. Long way out, so I'm largely ignoring but it does potentially back up your point. |

And only 22% for other parties seems low too. |

Yes, Opinium, Techne, Find Out Now, BMG, and in fact I missed out More in Common which had Tories at 30%. As much as I am ignoring, they're all in a similar ball park.

Starmer’s Labour should be included in the right wing party total

"The Tories have won far more elections than they should have done considering they're never that popular overall, it's just that the right wing vote has not been split." That statement makes no sense to me at all. And the subsequent post showing 67% of UK vote for a right sided party - whatever "right" actually means - The UK seems to be pretty settled to be in the right, with just under 70% being there no? |
