York has been mentioned (site identified next to the railway station). And as the HoL has not been exactly helpful during Brexit, don’t rule it out😉

How about instead of moving the Lords, they change the second house entirely so that it consists of a rotating broad range of society that convene online to consider the legislation coming out of the commons? Would be good to get some diverse and younger voices into the mix. Tabloids would struggle to brand the second house enemies of the people / metropolitan elite, if it was made up of the people |

Oh sure, I'm not seriously suggesting it could happen for dozens of reasons, just interested in people's ideas about what a second house should be, if anything.

I reckon they'll move the Lords to Wakefield - main line to London and home of the EDL if they need some protesting done.

simbil - sensible idea, has quite a few proponents, doesn't sound too far removed from a sortition. In fact runner/author Richard Askwith has written a book on the subject of sortitions. independent.co.uk Yeah if it's a voted house, it falls prey to being the same make up/pitfalls as the Commons. And if it's not FPTP, but PR, then why is the House of Commons not elected more democratically? So yes, I think some other method of choosing those who sit, and that re-enfranchises the voting populace in some small way would be good. |

It'd put an end to the 25+ year debate about what to do with the teardrop site alongside the York railway, left vacant and largely derelict by the end of the railway manufacturing industry. And of course the local media are very excited about it. After all, we're only a couple of hours from London! Bread and circuses, I think. |

Grimsby has two town centres, and one of them really needs some kind of grand project to help its relocation. They've already pulled half of it down. If they pick their site cleverly, they can get a view of the Dock Tower, which was designed to look the the Torre de la Mangia in Siena. Given that Great Grimsby is now one of the seats that the Tories need to "look after" to keep hold of power for the next thousand years, it's got to be a good call. Land prices are rock bottom. And then we can get our direct train to London that everyone's been promising, or they can give us a couple of flights from Kirmington Intracontinental Airfield to London City, to save having to go the long way round via Schiphol. I've said it's easier and cheaper to get to Amsterdam from Grimsby than it is to get to London before, haven't I? |
