.....or Rebecca Wrong-Daily as I saw her referred to elsewhere. I don't know much of her, but I did catch one interview during the campaigning and thought that she didn't really inspire me or fill me with confidence at the time. |

If labour want better results, they need to revise the way they campaign. One clear message and start the social engineering now. Learn from the Tories and play their game.

Something which always baffles me with the kind of mindset which has taken over in the Labour Party is why they don't see how ridiculously untrue some of the truisms they trot out are. "Our next leader needs to be a northerner". "Our next leader needs to be a woman". "Our next leader needs to be working-class". This is to win back the seats lost to privately-educated posh southern white man Boris Johnson. Do they not see the obvious mistake in their thinking? Apart from anything else, it's deeply patronising. The vast majority of northerners don't give a toss about whether the PM is northern, and women don't care whether the next PM is a woman. They just want someone charismatic who they can get behind and believe in, it doesn't matter what gender, social or regional background. |

If he thought Labour would win then i expect he would be happy to be the leader, with Farage as deputy of course. Looks like a depressing program on the NHS sell off tonight, itv.com |

It is imperative that the UK has a coherent opposition capable of arresting the degeneration of our political system. The in-groups that shaped the recent campaigns of both Labour and the Lib-Dems parties showed far greater concern for their party faithful than for the hopes and well-being of the general population. Both parties got their come-uppance in the ballot. Sadly one might also point out that the Tories did not show much evidence of concern for the well-being of the country. They simply ran a more ruthless campaign. They demonstrated that dishonesty works, and also managed to muzzle many humane members of their own party. So the chances of honesty and of humane policies emerging from within the Tory party during this parliament are not great. What hope is there of a coherent opposition? The Lib-Dems do not appear to have the required depth of expertise. Maybe Labour does, but it seems incapable of avoiding tearing itself apart. In my own view, there is no problem with moderate socialist policies. The opinion polls suggest widespread popular support for moderate socialist policies. The problem is finding a leader who can present these polices coherently while demonstrating a genuine respect for the hopes and well-being of the majority of the population. Sadly, what I have seen of Rebecca Long-Bailey makes me seriously doubt her ability to do this. But there are others who might be capable. There are excellent low-profile people like Lillian Greenwood. I do not suppose she would even consider putting her name forward. Jess Phillips appears to have the required honesty, humanity and charisma, but she might have already made too many enemies. It is hard to see a capable candidate to emerging from the current melee of squabbling cats. |

The question about NHS sell-off takes us back to the point by Markymarkmark from 10:43 this morning, that it doesn't make any real difference whether it's malice or incompetence behind the Government's drive, the results are the same. The Government could be deliberately trying to sell off the NHS, or rather, open it up to cherry-picking my US big pharma (malice); or (incompetence) it could simply not realise that failing to get a trade deal with the EU and going instead for a trade deal with the US means that such depredation by US business interests is inevitable. It doesn't matter how much the Government might say that the NHS isn't on the table, in any trade negotiations between the very large and powerful USA and the much smaller, weakened and desperate UK, if Trump says the NHS needs to be on the table, it's on the table. You would hope they would realise that, but maybe not?
