Back to that election ... well, not the whole of it. Are there any other initiation rites or ceremonies for elected MPs? spirefm.co.uk |

I doubt we would get back into the EU for another 20 years or more.

AllyC - Margin of victory, if you repeated the 1992 result in 2024, the Kinnock - Major loss , then it would be a hung Parliament, so maybe not a Labour majority on the cards, but certain Tories could be kicked out. Just reading today that Tony Blair and Paddy Ashdown had an alliance already in place if the result in 1997 had been a hung Parliament. Could you imagine that with Corbyn/Swinson? Of course not. But that is what is going to have to happen again. Not on the day, but before hand. Whatever else Blair turned out to be, a competent politician (as in skilled in the art of collective decision making and governance), he was certainly was. I shake my head on Iraq, because without the idiotic wars, his legacy wouldn't be mud. Flaws aplenty, but plenty of excellent achievements. |

I think Brexit - whatever it eventually ends up becoming - will need to play out before we can think about rejoining. I can't see that being less than a 10 year gig. On top of that we have Scottish independence and, possibly, Irish reunification to add into the mix. Who knows what could happen there, but that could add complication to government and complication means delay. After the dust has settled we will doubtless have a period of time when the "benefits" of full Brexit get to unwind themselves. That could be 5-10 years before, if things went really badly, the Remainer generation get to demand that we rejoin. Rejoining would doubtless take years. I'll be underground by then. I feel genuine sadness at Thursday's result, not least because I feel that the good guys have been utterly routed and the black hats have won across the board, placed in power by Labour voters. LABOUR voters. This crew care nothing for the poor and the disadvantaged. We know what they are like. We've had 9 years of them already. The Brexiteers and the Tory voters have put in power a bunch of hard right shitbags who are unscrupulous, unprincipled and will shamelessly repeat lie after lie to con the voter into giving them a mandate. Well, they knew what they were voting for. Stop blaming Corbyn and stop citing "Brexit". You voted these douchebags in and you know what we're gonna get. Own it. |

This election reminds me of 1979, manifesto that promises loads of spending that have not been worked out properly, a Labour leader that people do not trust for one reason or another, and a Con leader that somehow sweeps swathes of old Labour areas blue. I think Labour are out for 3 may 4 General Elections.

So Jeremy Corbin will stay on as Labour leader until April! That's clearly because he wants to influence his successor, who will undoubtably be another hard left candidate, effectively ruling them out for yet a another term!. When will they ever learn?

Didn't Labour produce a document that coated out their proposals?
