Interesting. Lib Dems have pulled their Beaconsfield candidate and endorsed Dominic Grieve. Opening the door to him should he be re-elected.... |

Nobody would accuse me of having an unrealistically high opinion of our departed friend, but even I'm slightly shocked he chose to slink off rather than either holding his hands up to misjudging his tone on that one (in which case he'd have gone up in my estimation significantly) or (which I'd actually've put my money on) fight his corner arguing black is white and accusing us of twisting his words and ganging up on him as usual. I wonder if he's alright? Does anyone know him IRL to check? |

The JRM arrogance lies in his assertion that he'd know how to react in such a situation. The truth is that until you find yourself in such a situation where the stress levels are traumatically high you don't know how you're going to react.Keeping a cool head is a rare talent and the most surprising people have it. Equally a lot of wise heads, in my experience, do not. |

Tories pull their vice-chair off the bench after 'big hitters' dig holes, and in the process, widens the hole: "One of the Conservatives' vice chairs, Ranil Jayawardena, has just been facing questions on 5 Live Drive. Asked about the outcry over Jacob Rees-Mogg's Grenfell remarks, he points to the Commons leader's apology and urges people to focus on the recently-published report into the disaster. "Let's not diminish the tragedy itself with politics," he adds. He also says the controversial tweeted video of Labour's Sir Keir Starmer was "very clearly not doctored" - rather, he says, it was edited, with music added." |
