Wasn't the opposition plan was to vote down the conferences recess and keep parliament open to get the ball rolling for legislation to block no deal? Which it seems rattled BoJo enough to pull this trick. The funniest thing is seeing a procession of Tory MPs pretend that this is nothing to do with Brexit and just business as usual |

It really shocks me how quickly and how far we have fallen as a nation, since the 2016 referendum, when I see all sorts of people (such as Stander on here) actually approving of what is in effect a coup attempt by Johnson and his cronies. How can we have come so close to full-blown fascism in so little time?

There is a bigger picture here than just one issue - even Brexit. Over the last 3 years parliamentary sovereignty, convention & the unwritten constitution have been ignored. Closing parliament is the latest and worst of these offences. Once precedents are set there is very little to stop future Government's/parliaments using them again. Dangerous times.

It's all starting to feel a bit rioty. Surprised it's taken so long really.

Likewise. I'd not be surprised to see civil unrest. Bearing in mind that Anna Sourby back walked across parliament square, past at least two on-duty police whilst three grown men screamed vile abuse in her face, and none of them intervened, I think we all know how that will turn out..... |

We can get rioty, I mean how dare the unelected courts thwart the people? They will not be able to try us for we will be acting in the right of the land. I wonder how long the middle class Brexiteers would support it, if law breaks down and people start taking their houses and lands off them? I suspect those who've lived in very little discomfort and threat in their entire lives might sing a different song when faced by real discomfort and real threat. |

What would happen if the entire country stopped going to work while parliament was closed?
