Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Mad4, it can be the shoes you wear and the way you walk that either stops it from healing or makes it worse...

If you twist the PF as you run/walk and/or overload it then it will get injured and you don't have to be running/walking far for it to flare up either.

M4P, What TR says is completely true. I had a spate of wearing completely stripped down shoes and the lack of arch support was almost certainly what gave me plantar fasciitis. I've found that wearing shoes with a better support have allowed me to run again.

Conversely, a woman I met at the weekend who had it had the opposite problem. She had very low arches and I thought the arch support may be overly stretching her PF tendon and I suggested she changed to a pair of shoes with less arch support.

Rach E - we don;t need arch support though do we? I mean our feet were not designed to have such stuff. I thought of resorting to orthotics but why muck about with the biomechanics of your feet?

Neutral or high arched feet don't need supports - they don't work for that sort of foot anyway. Flat feet may need supports for the overpronation motion.

I have had this but was lucky mine cleared up after a couple of weeks rest and cross training on a rowing machine, not sure why that helped it just did. The Mrs has had it recently -definately not overuse but she only got any relief whilst wearing shoes with higher heels rather than anything flat. Glad I didn't have to resort to that.

Rest but keep some stretching exercises and don't be fooled into thinking because the pain dissapears afterthe start of a run that the problem has gone away.

rach E - my PF was caused by too much arch support in allegedly neutral shoes. and then by wearing crocs for too long.

lets get one thing straight - REST DOES NOT WORK.

I rested for 2 months, it got worse.

DO NOT REST.

I was also told to wear cushioned shoes with higher heels.

Dont do this.

I feel better walking around bare foot.
