I walk around barefoot a lot anyway and as a barefoot runner got up to 6 miles before I had an injury/it started raining and tracks got too slippery. Yesterday I walked over to the Tour of Britain & back via a green space to try to stabilise the foot - about 4 miles.

Was chatting to a tri clubmate yesterday who's had a 2-year achilles problem.

Ah, thanks RS, that makes total sense. Always meant to do more barefoot, but it's dead mucky round here )

Had the heel inserts in my non-running shoes for a few days now and so far so good. Hopefully it keeps the pain away :)

Desperate for mine to arrive. I start a new business in 2 weeks - dog-walking. I'm in pain at the mo as I've been out delivering leaflets all day.

Trying out this link. Sounds like my pain is nerve pain and not PF:

Hi all, am making myself known on here but I am not sure if I have the early onset if PF or not...

I started a new injury thread the other day as I have had what I described as a random pain in the ball of my foot. I couldn't pin point the spot and it isn't a sharp pain but some definite tightness / stiffness and general soreness on the ball of my foot. Ok when running but can feel it after. I looked at Mortons a Neuroma but dismissed it as my symptoms don't seem to fit and had originally worried about a metatarsal stress fracture, but I can't feel a specific spot, it's not bruised or swollen and not painful to run on. Plus 2 active days walking haven't made it any worse.

So, whilst the pain isn't my heal and is only slightly towards my arch, could it be PF? I have had it suggested via the helpful sub-3:15 peeps but had originally dismissed it on the grounds of it being the ball rather than heal of my foot. The symptoms feel consistent with PF apart from the site of the pain!!

I'd be grateful for any tips, advice, experience please - my priority is completing Abingdon marathon in 5 weeks time and ideally to get in another 2 weeks of decent mileage before I taper. Will be looking at private physio referral via my GP as I have AXA PPP healthcare through work.

Hi Clare. Sorry you're having foot troubles. Only advice I can give is that it's highly likely to not be PF. If it was, it'd feel like someone was trying to tear the tendon from your heel bone.

Ball sounds more like a bit of a strain of something that'll probably settle in time cos the body's good at that. Run through it if it doesn't hurt to run*

*no liability accepted in taking this advice :-)

Good link RS, I like the pics and descriptions. I wondered about nerve pain too, but in the end, the exercises I have to do are pretty similar whether it's nerve or fascia strain. There's that ankle flex test and mobility stuff you can do.
Clare - I'd agree that ball of foot is a pretty uncommon place for PF tho' I know Baz mentioned it.

The other thing I mentioned on 3:15 Clare was damage of tendon to the big toe, which a friend of mine had. Her tendon eventually ruptured. However, I think her pain was fairly acute and she felt it while running, not just after.

Hope you work out what it is. Generic sensible things like resting a bit, massaging it, anti-inflam (ibuprofen), a bit of heat and a bit of cold (ice) etc. might alleviate it. I would def caution against running hard on it for a while, until you work out what it is and what direction it's going in though. Good luck. :-) G

I just got the ones from Boots at £20 for the pair. I did read that you need to wear both and not just the one in the sore foot though.
