Thank you Hendo, Luna and :-)Grrrr, I am inclined to agree from what I have read that PF is unlikely, but am keeping an open mind as Dr Google can cause as much harm as good... This morning I ran 20 miles and for the majority of the run it was fine, just occasional awareness, then since I have felt it a bit but no worse than after I ran Friday and it responded well to resting my foot on my ice pack. I suspect I will need to see a physio / specialist but I don't want anybody telling me not to run *buries head in sand* as it currently doesn't feel serious enough for that and if it were like this on marathon day, I could get around the race no problem albeit it may hurt a bit after. I am not sure if my shoes / orthotics are a factor. Since Achilles problems 9-10 years ago I have worn custom orthotics although in recent years as I got a bit more 'serious' about running, I have a variety of shoes and I don't use them in my racing / lighter shoes (of which I have several types!). So I tend to wear cushioned shoes with orthotics for long runs, slower general and recovery runs. I then wear lighter ones for speed or pace work, races etc with no orthotics. I had no problems after my HM last Sunday which I raced in light shoes, but the niggle started on Tuesday and on that run and ever since, I have worn cushioned shoes with orthotics. The surface of my orthotic on the wider ball of the foot bit is quite hard and unforgiving even if the shoe underneath is cushioned. So while before I thought wearing a supportive cushioned 'safe' shoe would help me, I am wondering if it's not helping at all. So this week I am going to try running in the more cushioned of my lightweight shoes with no orthotics to see if that feels any better / worse.... |

Clare - interesting. My PF issues definitely arose around the same time as playing around with orthotics. I had custom ones made up likewise for an achilles issue, they were hard and half length causing some issues eventually, new ones made up which never fitted properly, ditching them altogether, followed by my most concerted period of running, then PF and now I'm back to gentle/softer off the shelf shop ones and trying to get back to walking pain free. But you do so much more mileage than I ever did this sounds like it should be a transient thing. Go to the fizz, especially if tis free, you lucky thing. You don't have to listen to advice to stop running you know! On the other hand, mine never tells me to stop, which is quite annoying sometimes! Then he sticks needles in me. Why am I paying him? Different case I know, but I also ran a second marathon this year despite pretty bad pain beforehand (it always wore off during the run), and am paying for for it. |

Hi all, whilst I don't think I have PF, I did as suggested to me elsewhere and froze a 500ml bottle of water and have used it on both my feet tonight as an ice roller and they feel great - it has made them feel so much looser and easier. It may not be treating / addressing the specific niggle I have got but for preventative purposes or for anybody with PF symptoms, I would wholeheartedly recommend it!

My phys can't get Orthaheel in XS; she has found something else for me. It seems they may be discontinued. What a sh!t country this is. Time was you could get shoes in different width fittings, now small people can't get shoe inserts to fit. As the World gets more full of people, it seems like there is less available to them unless it makes a quick buck.

Mouseytongue and RS - inserts - I bought FootLogics (Ozzie company) Comfort ones locally for about £30: footlogics.co.uk They seem fine so far. Clare - that's about the only reason I sometimes wish I had a freezer! |

Thanks for the tips, Ronnie & Luna. Reading back, I wondering whether mine is actually PF. Although I have classic PF symptoms (Heel & Arch pain), I also have a sharp pain on the top of my foot when running and sometimes when not. Is it possible to have PF & a stress fracture? Knowing my luck, probably yes ! ![]() |

Thanks for the link Bazo. Luna - I will see what my fizz comes up with; it might be those. Mousey - I have a nobble on the ball of my foot like I had with the last bout of 'PF' on t'other foot. I've been doing some yoga on Mondays which makes the foot hurt in the strong poses but at the end all is OK. |

I've been in pain most of the day. This PF is different from t'other foot. It used to hurt when not mobile. At the mo', I'm getting pain when walking around. I iced today and all it did was transfer a funny feeling up the leg. ![]() |

Aww, squirrel, that's miserable. Hope inserts help. Keep doing the other things too - even with ice, sometimes it's the repeated application that helps. ![]() |
