Good to feel part of the group!
Seeing as I'm 99% sure it is PF and I know the 'right' things to do, e.g. night splint, golf ball rolling, icing, rest, etc, is ther any extra benefit I would get from seeing a physio? Ultrasound, massage, etc.
Regarding night splint, how do others find them, comfort wise? I haven't worn mine for an entire night yet because it tends to cause numbness across the bottom of my foot at the widest point after a while. Am I putting too much tension on the adjustable straps?

The Scribbler
SS a good physio/sports massage therapist should help you understand what's caused your PF and what you can do to help prevent it in future as well as helping you to treat it now.
Unfortunately it's one of those injuries that seems to reoccur quite a bit, so if you can avoid the injury, fix it, run, injury cycle, you may get better long term results.

I've managed 2 nights in a row with the LA brace. What a difference that makes. Wish I had bought it many months ago.

Thanks for highlighting it a few months back. Has anyone tried the Strassburg sock? Seems quite pricey for a sock with a strap.

I didn't use anything like that. I had a stretching, massaging, rolling and icing routine.
I also used a multi-pronged approach to the injury - physio, podiatrist and acupuncturist/manipulator. Latter bloke helped wit the pain; phys prescribed rolling, icing, self-massage, strengthening and temporary things in my shoes; pod man also made some things for my shoes to correct what my feet were doing. Inserts ... that's what they're called. Anyway, I've taken them out now.

Thanks RS. I too have had physio, ice treatment, golf ball, pedi roller. My PF has almost gone but Now down the gym strengthening my legs as the prolonged PF has had a knock-on effect on my knee. Basiaclly my physio has assessed that my thigh muscle has wasted away and my PF side is 30% weaker than the other. Will consider a podiatrist if it flares again.

Winded
After a good long spell of recovery I spent a week not stretching and now have twinges. Perhaps not a lesson that applies to everyone's injuries but it stretching is what helps you then it is probably a good idea to keep it going for a stupidly long time.

Orthotics worked for me. Over-the-counter Superfeet DMP insoles (occasionally available half price on SportPursuit for around £25).
Once I got those in my shoes, I didn't have to do anything else and it just got steadily and slowly better until it pretty much disappeared entirely.
Before that I did all the strassbourg sock, rolling, stretching, icing etc - but nothing seemed to do much until I got the shoe-inserts.
Don't need to wear them all the time now.
Good luck guys. I occasionally look in here, and come over all evangelical about the inserts
