HQ just emailed to say that results emails will have a "I want to volunteer" button for runners to email in automatically asking to volunteer. That'll be the problem sorted then.

Hope you get there (and no weather interrupts your plans).
And sort of on the weather, a post on the café thread notes that some events cancelled already because of the weather. So I looked up the cancellations page. But what drew my attention was on the point of using the parkrun page vs using Facebook. Rugby is cancelled post fireworks display damage. Rostrevor due to unsafe or blocked course. On both main pages they have event cancelled - see News for more details. But all they have is the basic reason. Rugby has a bit more on the FB page, Rostrevor quite a bit more.
Here's where events could use their own pages to inform and engage parkrunners, but they aren't. Working I suppose on the assumption that anybody interested will check FB. I know it's more work, but surely worth 5-10 minutes of the ED's time to add a proper News update? (Rostrevor actually have no other "News" shown since the test event in 2016).
(Additionally, especially where cancellations are dragging on, I think it's useful to post a picture of two of the actual problem.)

Loads of event teams simply don't know how to use their news pages, and then there are those who know but can't be bothered because it is a bit of a pain.
Parkrun should have got the entire system onto an app years ago. That would have been a better use of money that spending a quarter million a year on a daft magazine that no one wants.

We have the six years anniversary in Leipzig tomorrow. Forecast is very cold, nightly lows down to -7 so I don't know if I fancy that.
I'm not using Facebook atm, so I'd appreciate it if they used their news pages to announce cancellations.

I think the point evident here is that there is inconsistency in the way that parkrun handles informing it's participants about stuff, and that what feels "normal" and "the right place" to one person may well be an accumulation of what they've experienced from their local team.
It's the usual trade off for parkrun of being both local and international. Consistency in some things, inconsistency in others.
Nearly all the teams round here use FB as their main mechanism for comms. They will also use "news" but will always cross post any new "news" articles onto FB too. Best of both worlds. But then they don't use the volunteer email route at all, they just rely on FB and word of mouth on parkrun days.

It all comes back to this: if you're unhappy with the way your local parkrun is managed, volunteer to help.

Agree about the magazine. And it wasn't accessible. And yes, I should have fed that back but I didn't.
