Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Yet another update for anyone who'd like to organise a visit to run at one of the prison parkruns: contact your ambassador who either is, or will know who is, the ambassador for the prison parkrun you have in mind. It's easier to arrange visits to open prisons than closed prisons, for fairly obvious reasons. I get the impression that open prisons at least are keen to have visits from groups of runners.

I’ve been to a prison parkrun twice (an open prison) and hope to go again. It was an amazing experience. It was organised through our regional ambassador. We needed to give our names in advance (we were invited) and produce photo ID/sign in when we arrived. We couldn’t take cameras or phones inside and weren’t allowed to post our GPS online eg strava

Thanks, Pen. Our nearest is a young offenders' institution. I wonder whether that makes a difference.

Not necessarily. It would really depend on the institution, how they work and their policies around parkrun. I would speak to the ambassador for the event (your local ambassador can find out who that is) as LazyDaisy says.

I’m lucky enough to be part of our local ambassador team which is how I got the opportunity to be invited. There were a few others who had been invited by the regional ambassador from his running club.

Thank you. I've already spoken to one of the other RDs and we will try to progress this if possible.

Brilliant! No CQ zones, though.

What’s the rationale about not posting GPS trace? It’s not like the location of the prison is a secret.

It might show access points to the prison grounds I’m guessing. Good for organising à breakout?
