I'm struggling to see the harm, but I'm sure someone will come along to correct me...

And to think I felt guilty trying to negotiate a parking discount with the council.

"MINI Electric will feature at select parkrun events. You’ll spot it a mile off." No, no you won't. maybe a few hundred metres?

But don't we just file this under "parkrun needs cash and sponsors to keep going".

We can argue the ethics of a car company vs fitness / exercise I suppose, but given that most people drive to parkrun, it's not like (say) a cycling charity being sponsored by a car company etc. Driving and parkrunning are not mutually exclusive.

I have no strong views either way, apart from them shoehorning the word `driven' into Nick Pearson's comments. See what they did there?

On the positive side, I'd imagine that the size of cheque that a company like BMW can sign without batting an eyelid is potentially substantial, and with the foothold that parkrun has got in Germany now there is potential for a decent arrangement. It wouldn't affect my car purchasing decisions, but then I'm not a regular car buyer.

OTOH, I suspect if we see parkrun HQ staff motoring around in bright orange minis, there'll be wailing and gnashing of teeth about their self interest.

I forwarded the press release to one of our RDs. I'd imagine he'd be all over hosting an electric car

I just think it's at odds with parkrun's stated commitment to encouraging sustainable travel to events.

Great, maybe there will be competitions. Wouldn't mind winning a Mini. Even if it was electric.

However ... perhaps it is unfair to hold parkrun HQ to a higher standard for integrity than a commercial organisation, but the assertion made that, given that it seems to be specifically UK related, that "Every weekend, more than 200,000 people get together at their local events" is simply not true. Last weekend, counting junior and 5km runners, walkers and volunteers, the figure was more like 173 000. Why do parkrun feel the need to do this?
