It's all tarmac. Silver Street station is right next to the park. I did it five years ago so I'm not sure what the cafe situation is. It's a very small but lovely community.

We did jog up to Avery Hill from a place near Woolwich so possibly didnt see the best bits of the area, but I have also spent some time in Eltham at a track meet and other things and always found it a too hairy for my liking. I have been twice to Greenwich parkrun.

Like anywhere in London there are nice bits right next to rough bits I suppose. Bexley parkrun is glorious! I think I did the inaugural. 2 laps, mostly tarmac, lovely house to look at.

I assume Beckenham Place is nice too - Ive run two XC races there and its a fab place in the winter.

Bexley is a very close contender in my choice of next Kent-ish parkrun.

I was hoping to do all those in the actual legal county of Kent first, albeit with Great Lines in the list as well, but I'm starting to get to the ones that take longer and longer to get to (Walmer, Pegwell, Whitstable...), whereas Bexley's not all that far from my parents'. But then I've got Orpington and Foots Cray and Beckenham and all that nonsense as well.

Waiting for Sheerness to start, that'll be fun!

DeeGee - A few more 'Kentish' in the pipeline as well. Re parkrun avant Wembley. Would Victoria Dock be impractical to get to - plenty to keep the boy interested and you can then take Jubilee from Canning Town ( mind, it does wind its way back up north ). Excel has loads of eating places ( maybe a tad pricey ) all open when there is an event taking place.

Now, that's a decent call, Kev. It'll be bus to Stratford and then the DLR, so I'll need to look at timings.

Gates don't open until 3pm these days, so I was going to need to find somewhere to eat lunch before setting off to Wembley anyway. My old pre-match ritual of drinking a skinful in central London before heading off up the line to Vicarage Road (resulting in at least one completely missed match!) just doesn't cut it with a 9 year old in tow.

DeeGee Bexley is a good run but has a short gravel uphill run which some like, others don't and make sure you don't go after a very wet spell - there is a short section through woods that can be muddy then across the polo field ( large area of grass ) which has been know to get waterlogged. Unfortunately the event is suffering from parkrun popularity and is now quite cramped. The official homepage still uses my picture ( taken many years ago to set the scene.

Looking at some nearby-ish parkruns (my local has two cancellations this month), I took a peek at Severn Bridge which will be one of them. Not sure why but they had 104 first-timers (mainly tourists) out of 219 runners last week. Unusual. Looking forward to that one later in May.

ref - Victoria Dock parkrun. There are places to get brekkie... and its a nice run in interesting surroundings

Probably Severn Bridge had a few who were doing Newport Marathon, TomahawkMike.
