Here’s a thought, offer to put it in if he volunteers for the next month! Then put him in scanning or unscannables...

Our ED does the ‘if you don’t like it I’ll refund your entry fee’ line. Best way of reminding everyone its volunteer run...

(I don’t think he actually deserves to have a result though)

Would adding A Plonker in the results ( sorry meant times ) help or make things worse?

I'm glad I got that moan of my chest.

Thanks to all you lovely people who have posted on this forum, I've cheered up considerably.

That made me laugh HappyG, make his P.A. run for him. The trouble is, he was such an obnoxious so & so, I wouldn't put it past him.

Make him be scanner or actually ED for the day so that he is the one who has to update the results with unscanneds etc. Make him do the full ED role though for the week - chasing for volunteers, substituting in and out volunteers changing right up to Sat morning, turning up early for set up, co-ordinating volunteers on the day, dealing with any on day issues, last to leave after all runners and event close down, and hour or two in café with team, taking home the laptop, dealing with idiot emails...

Some folk are unreasonable. A few years ago there were technical issues at an event I took part in, which meant they couldn't process results - even the scanners failed.
A few faster runners had chosen that day to try to get a qualifier for the Armagh International 5k (although I disagree that a parkrun should be allowed for that). So a lot of people lost their cool with the volunteers and ED as they "needed" that time to qualify. However, one runner was most concerned at her lack of a run credit, and complained, without any hint of irony, that she was earning Vitality points and without a run credit would not get her Apple Watch.

Agree parkrun should not be eligible as a qualifier for anything because it's "not a race"!

Losing Vitality points is an interesting one - was that actually promoted by parkrun for a time? If so, imagine someone suing parkrun for their (actual) loss due to an event failure. Even though the complainant had no "right" to do the run, they had a loss due to not doing the run. Interesting legal position...?!

Not if it's just someone independent of parkrun unofficially leveraging parkrun, but if it's promoted by / provided by parkrun... ! :-) G

No real difference to losing credits towards a free t-shirt etc. I remember the Armargh issue a few years ago, and it did surprise me that a race of that quality even considered allowing parkruns to be qualifying times given the absence of any required certification of distance, officials, identify verification etc. Irrespective of whether it is a race or not, those things alone should probably preclude it from being relied upon.

OTOH, given how sniffy many old skool runners are about parkrun, it was quite refreshing to see Armargh treating parkrun as being part of the make up of the UK's fast 5k landscape.

The new course at Vicky park is actually slightly over 5k, possibly due to lapping on the 3rd lap and running wide - but it is a great warm-up for Armagh, whether using it to qualify or just sharpen/tempo.
Armagh is sub 16 now, so those who were mouthing off then have no hope now of qualifying.

12bardavid I would make him ED and then have at least 30 'forget' or 'memorise' their barcode and see how he gets on with that one
