Charging also goes against what's written on their t-shirts right now, which I think includes the words "free" and "forever".

parkrun HQ would never I think tolerate a charge, and Gobi's (once again) right - no matter how small the charge, I think people would stop.
The best way to manage demand is do what they've been doing - open up new parkruns locally to relieve the pressure. I'm sure in some areas there is already probably a saturation of available places, and that is where that option falls down though.

Charging would be the end of parkrun, add "only the fastest N runners get a time" to the pile of unnecessary ideas.

I don’t think they will charge, but sometimes it’s good to let an idea run and see how far it can go!

A few weeks back I saw one of our runners brush past a member of the public and I thought at the time there was no need for the runner to do that as there was space but he was running two a breast and they moved into single file. Quite rightly she complained but unfortunately I didn't recognise the person and did try to see in the results who it could have been but never did. Gives runners a bad name when there was no need.

I hope that's the bloke that I think it s Fetch, we were quite shocked by the behaviour of the runner that we "reported" to the RD this week. If he's apologised and will volunteer that's fab and I'll be very pleased to see him on Saturday
I hope you're right about GD taking some runners from Bedford, but have a feeling that new ones will fill both very soon.

I have a vague recollection of a quote along the lines of “the one thing guaranteed to create new parkrunners is a new parkrun”.

every time a new event starts within 20 miles of cambridge we hope our numbers will fall - instead they just keep on rising and we really are struggling for capacity. I still remind people of the time around event 3 when we wondered how we'd ever cope if we got more than 100 runners!
