I thought I'd seen a recent email about targets for AEDs at every UK parkrun having been brought forward a year because fundraising to buy them had been so successful, but I can't find it. There is a member of staff responsible for AEDs, training on use etc.

Sad for the lady concerned and her family, as well as those involved at the parkrun. Terrible shock, I'd guess.

(And now awaiting the inevitable headline grabbing twit who says running is bad for you...)

Loads do, TR. I think I read somewhere that there's something like 70% of all parkruns have one.

I know that locally Exeter Riverside are appealing for one.

Maybe this tragic event will help with a final push towards getting one

Very sad news.

Cleethorpes has had an AED for about a year, it was donated by a local multinational, and with their agreement and that of the council we are going to install it in a public-facing location, in a cabinet, in order that the public can benefit from it.

Sad for all concerned. I suppose given the numbers of participants involved across the country, these things are only to be expected.

Tragic for her family, and very distressing too for those involved on a volunteer basis at Swindon who don't sign up to this expecting to be dealing with something like that, even tangentially, on a Saturday morning.

Have there been any "successful" uses of AEDs at parkrun events since they were more widely deployed? Clearly if only 1 death is prevented across all the parkruns ever they are worthwhile, but just wondering whether they have been called into action effectively?

not at parkrun but I have been at 2 separate races where they have been used successfully. I'm not 100% sure if there would have been a different outcome without a defib but they were used and the individuals survived.....
