There are some weird ratings in the ParkRun list there. I've run both Harrogate and York - both easy pan-flat loops. But York is ranked 21, whereas Harrogate is 228. Must be a good reason for it, I suppose. Thanks for sharing larkim.

Or maybe it's based on average times? Dunfermline is hillier than a hilly thing, so rank 328 makes sense. But Mulbarton is just a slightly sloping village green (almost four laps)and it's rated 391. So those ranking certainly aren't relative levels of difficulty.

Regarding the list, how does he define difficulty? I did Torbay recently and though it was flat, the last mile round the football pitches was a quagmire, so harder than say Middlesbrough Albert park which is all tarmac. And no way is Gainsborough harder than QE country park..

*returns after reading ParkRun statsgeek page*

The author (Tim Grose) adds (SSS=difficulty rating),
"the SSS is computed by basically comparing the runner's performance in given parkrun/race with their recent best at a similar distance. However to ensure some integrity the runner has to have done some "races", then a certain minimum number and then other exclusions if say it appeared they did not "try" which is obviously more common in parkruns than races."

Well, you learn something everyday.

Things might be under odd names. Braunstone is down as Leicester.

Does anyone know how these scores convert to times? Ie how would a 25 min runner on a 2.5 course expect to do on a 3.0 or 2.0?

He does say in that FB link that some parkruns are not on the list are there aren't enough samples, Mrs Shanksi.

I can't pretend I've ever understood the Run Britain SSS rankings!
