Hmm I've raced a number of times on the Llanelli course and the Swansea Bay course (although not as a parkrun) and would always pick Cardiff Blackweir as quicker even if the wind wasn't blowing which makes Llanelli in particular a pig.

The Worcester Pitchcroft rating smelled suspicious before I looked at the course map - I was expecting to see a point to point straight line downhill but it is certainly not that parkrun.org.uk
I suspect that some calculation has gone awry there.

If you look through some recent results there are a high proportion of PBs at Pitchcroft.

I doubt his maths is incorrect, but if the course is 4.8k then that would certainly help!

Working as I do in a Statistical organisation, outliers tend to knee you in the balls when you see them and I'm still bent over from that one.

I wonder if it helps that it has only been going since the summer, so it has had the best of the weather / conditions.

I found a runner on RBR who had done 14 of the 25 runs there so I could see the SSS scores for each event - not one had an SSS higher than 1.0 (which is the default entry when not enough runners take part to calculate a score), so there is definitely "something" about the mix of runners / speeds there that is generally "above average".

Difficulty is the wrong word (though I used it!). It should really say "ranked by performance relative to expected performance based on runner's previous history as stored by RunBritainRankings".

Bizarre ranking for Hilly Fields right next to Roundshaw Downs - the latter is a LOT flatter (though all off-road which might make a difference).
