Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Inclusivity is brilliant, there isn't anyone who would say that they are opposed to that, the snag is that what tends to happen with human nature is that this isn't enough and we need to keep going further just to reiterate how inclusive we are, then the language starts to change subtly at first that makes people wonder. I am honestly expecting the next stage to be that walking 5K is too elitist and instead people should be allowed to virtually walk it and claim a virtual time from their armchair.

I used to hate doing 5k races before parkrun came along. Sometimes I race parkrun, use it as a tempo run or just a steady run as apart of a longer run.

Main thing is to get what you want out of it and enjoy.

Is there a list of NYD doubles somewhere? I may be over in Yorkshire for NYD, and it looks like Pontefract / Rothwell is do-able (8 miles to cover between Ponte at 9am and Rothwell at 10:30 isn't beyond the realms of possibility as a challenge to start off the year!)

Mascot - i can be disappointed with where it has gone. I started when there was only Bushy and it was a time trial. I have lived the whole evolution of parkrun and have helped set 3 up. I have volunteered more times than i have run.

In the last few years i have been made feel unwelcome for being fast and abused by completers when i have been coming back through the field having done nothing more than shout on your left. I took an interest in it because it was started by runners for runners.

Saturday I ran back round the course to thank the marshalls who had stood out in the rain so I could run.

I know PSH to talk to and he is a top chap but I'm pretty sure if pressed he would admit that he did not exactly plan the evolution of parkrun.

Just sent out an email to our volunteer list to see whether we'll get the support we need to do Christmas and NYD runs.

Drat CW, you just beat me to it! Vast majority of events not made a declaration yet.

There is a Christmas Day map as well google.com

In other news, North Beach parkrun in Durban, SA, just celebrated its fifth anniversary. First event had 74 finishers. Last Saturday had 2021 finishers. I suspect that PS-H would view parkrun in South Africa as the exemplar he would like to see worldwide.

And new registrants for parkrun will now have a barcode which is A4000000+.

Gobi - well said. There is another thing I simply don't get which is how someone running 15:00 is spoiling my enjoyment or deterring me from running or walking at any speed - anyone who can make that stretch has as far as I am concerned issues that they should have left behind when they became an adult. The other really weird "I am the centre of the universe" mentality is that other people care about what time I got around in - the sad truth is that people worry about their times and nobody else's.
