Just seen that Yoevil Montacute parkrun is no more. Announced on the 18th. I was hoping to go there at the end of August. They can't cope with the numbers running and affecting the grounds.

Y oh Y? Where am I going to get a Y for my alphabet tourist challenge? :-(

Oh, York would be the other one. I wonder if that could end up changing its name though? What's the likelihood of a new parkrun in the York area?

It was 'announced' a lot further back than the 18th Groundhog. 'With Me Now' had a pod covering it 5-6 weeks ago and news had got out in the days prior to that.

Wasnt there some strongish talk that York was inteneding to change it's name at some point to Knavesmire? I am not a local though so unsure how accurate that renaming would be.

I've done York. Missed out on Yeovil when we went to do that a few years back for the 'Y'. It was cancelled due to snow at the last minute and we ended up popping down to Weymouth for for the day to pick up an unplanned for 'W' instead.

Weymouth is a good one, they all got together to sing their parkrun song when I was there and I was made to wear the Raggy Vest to show I was a first timer.

I think the Knavesmire name would fit as it is the name of the area where the racecourse is.

I was thinking of doing Weymouth next month as I'm down there on holiday, but you've rather put me off.

GH - I'm sure you didn't intend to make Weymouth parkrun sound like some sort of sinister cult but I'm with DG on that one (not that I have any plans to go that far south any time in the foreseeable)

Yes, it's all a bit "outsider exclusionary" with special outfits and a song, which is a rather odd approach for a resort parkrun to take.

The York Tyburn was situated on the area called the Knavesmire. Public hangings on the York gallows took place from 1379 to 1801, Dick Turpin meeting this fate in 1739.

I’ve done Weymouth. I ignored the song and didn’t announce myself as a first timer but thoroughly enjoyed the course.

Yes, ER I did just join because I felt like it. It's not compulsory.
