Now, Woking is an interesting call, there's Hilton Doubletree and I've heard, also, a very nice Pizza Express! I'm trying to avoid the Yorkshire ones for this particular plan as they're close enough to justify going home on the Saturday, and what I'm really trying to wangle is a weekend away Currently Worcester Pitchcroft is looking like a possible as well, although I'm not meeting my Hilton/Holiday Inn criteria with that it is mainline rail, a nice city to spend a couple of days wandering, and the run is walking distance from the city centre, with hotels that don't cost the earth. |

Just going back to the look for parkruns near railway stations, I was thinking about Js. I was thinking there must be a Jubilee park in a city with a station somewhere and found one in Spennymoor but it no longer has a railway station. Jersey Farm is on the outskirts of St Albans, but I don't know how practical it would be to get there from the station as I went by car. If you want a nice weekend in the Channel Islands (no trains though except on Alderney) Jersey is a great one to do. Close to the airport, and on the airport bus route, so easy to get to. When I last did it, someone had flown in that morning to do her 100th there I would be too worried about the plane being delayed to do that. |

The Mussile
DeeGee come to Somerdale pavilion at Keynsham and send yourself dizzy on the most unique [sic] course out there. Train station very close and Bristol is a great place to spend an evening with many hotels.

The Mussile I will come to Somerdale one day. Bristol has so far only been a place I've visited briefly for various business reasons, so one day I'll have a look at that area properly. hellywobs Jesmond Dene came up as a straightforward J for me to do, it's not far from Newcastle City Centre and I believe pretty much on the Metro. Rail-accessible events of all types have long been something I look for. We have made the decision to only own one car, which works for us 90% of the time, but if I take it away for running events it leaves the missus and the kids without transport for a weekend. It takes an hour driving along country roads to so much as get to a major motorway anywhere, so the train s a much more relaxing method of travel. I also get a slightly smug feeling of satisfaction by reducing my carbon footprint. Given that I drive to Cleethorpes when I'm there, I wonder if my tourism by train is greener than the 12 mile round trip by car to my nearest parkrun? |
