I also get a slightly smug feeling of satisfaction by reducing my carbon footprint. Given that I drive to Cleethorpes when I'm there, I wonder if my tourism by train is greener than the 12 mile round trip by car to my nearest parkrun?
It varies hugely but it seems that on average, taking a train compared with driving alone reduces carbon footprint by about 80%. So for the same environmental cost as a 12 mile car journey you could go 60 miles by train. Obviously lots of ifs bits and maybes but that seems to be the headline figure.

In that case, probably not, it takes me 60 miles to just leave the county.
Anything in the county that I run, I have to drive to.

For future reference we (West Links) are right beside the East Coast main line but as it’s neither safe nor legal to jump off a moving train you need to allow 30 minutes walking time (or a short taxi ride) from Arbroath Station.

Or you can do like the Polish fruit pickers used to and pull the emergency cord close to your destination and jump off once it has stopped...

I'm glad I now have a parkrun I can cycle to. I imagine the novelty will wear off the first time it pours with rain on a Saturday morning, but it's been dry every Saturday since it started so far.
Of course, it's not completely altruistic with the current price of petrol (I have a hybrid but even so).

I’m not a cyclist but I can walk to parkrun in 20 minutes, as long as I’m not RD that week or next as it’s a bit far to carry the cartabout box.

Yeah, I run to my local, and it’s 1.5 miles through town. I feel very fortunate to have one so close that I can easily get to. As it happens, it’s also where my Tri club train as it’s a velopark that we have sole access to for running and cycling sessions.

I've lived here nearly a year and run 8 times I think, volunteered a couple of times and done lad watching so the Mrs could run.
9am is so late in the day I can get 10 done and have breakfast before it starts so haven't really become regular
