Paddles up was such a big deal in the canoeing world at the time but when it ended it didn't really have any noticeable impact, in the way that I think trialling benefited from Kickstart. However, at the latest Olympics they had medals for Canoe-X which owes more than a little to Paddles Up as a TV/Spectator friendly event, so maybe it just took time for the generation that watched it to get old enough to be running the sport. |

You might get a few coming to the end of their careers. Wasn't Malcolm McDonald's 100m on the brisk side? I think you're right. I seem to remember the athletes in the revamped version were retired and obviously past their bestest ! |

Kickstart would be okay. That was a trials competition, with current riders just doing their own sport. Now that streaming platforms have outbid terrestrial TV for all major sports, maybe it's time for BBC / ITV to support the minority sports like this by showing them more often? |

Did I say I'd had my blood test results back? Anyway, I've had my blood test results back and my cholesterol is 5.9. Needs to be under 5.0. I want to try diet and exercise then retest before I start on statins. MrsHL has given me A Book About It. Better than A Look About It, but only slightly. And my ten year heart attack risk is about 12%. That ought to improve if I can set to work on my cholesterol and actually do the exercise I keep promising myself to do. Wimped out of parkrun yesterday morning but I did go for a nice walk a bit later in the morning. Baby steps. |
