Saturday mornings were for fothering up the cattle and sheep from the age of 12. No TV for me!

I have a twin brother and a trip to the local hospital was mandatory for one of us most school holidays for some minor scrape, sprain or tumble while playing outside. One of my favourite memories of growing up was putting a fork through my foot while digging potatoes. I've still got the scar. It wasn't all Daktari and Camberwick Green

Hospital? The correct 70s response was "Tis but a scratch!".

And maybe a rub from mum's hankie after she's spit on it.

eL Bee! also reckons he was also well known in his local A&E. My mum was a hospital nurse and a first aid instructor and enjoyed dealing with scrapes and sprains herself, though she was a lifelong fan of Getting The Doctor Out for minor infectious diseases.

My mum was quite canny at spotting proper illness or injury. Most issues could be dealt with either Savlon, or the threat of a thick ear

As a kid, any minor (or major) injury was treated with cotton wool soaked in hydrogen peroxide. It certainly stopped us making too much of a fuss.

My sister and I managed to go unscathed through our childhood, apart from two fairly major incidents.

1. My sister cut her foot open somehow playing on a neighbours seesaw! Not sure how she did it but that was fairly dramatic and quite bloody requiring a few stitches iirc.

2. We were playing out one evening and had both decided we wanted to play with my sister's roller skates. We'd decided to wear one each for some reason. I fell over hit the kerb and broke my hip. Mum told me I'd pulled a muscle and I'd be fine. So I walked on it for 4 days before she took me to the doctors to check if i might need a bit of physio. He sent us straight to A&E!

I split my head open crashing my new birthday scooter into next door's concrete garage. The threat of no jelly and blancmange later had me back out and playing again quickly

My cousin ran barefoot through a fire and burnt her foot so badly it’s always been a size smaller

The she stood on a needle that went into the same burnt foot that had no senses in it!
