Where does that leave someone like me, that has naturally low body fat, monitored by a sports physician for years when racing bikes?
I have always "failed to thrive" even as a kid and am on the thin side of healthy. I always drop weight rapidly when ill, like now, or in the past when racing and training hard. I have been sponsored by Torq, which helped... But I was always lead to believe that being under-weight was better than being over-weight?

Although an increasing percentage, the number of people surviving to 90 is still pretty small, though. I wonder if there is another cohort, perhaps of the substantially overweight, who might, say, lose 10% of body weight and survive more years than expected, but not until 90?

(Although if the theory about weight "set-points" and loss-gain is correct, it's all quite depressing and the best we can hope for is possibly stopping further increase; and hoping that the following generation can function for long enough before succumbing to obesity-related health conditions that society doesn't collapse before we ourselves are dead.

Eeh, that were a bit grim :-o )

My Mum's weight was stable throughout her life. She lived to 97. QED ;-)

Same here give or take a few pounds, LazyDaisy. Mum reached 92 or 93, normal healthy weight through her life, certainly what would be classed as slimmish now. She never dieted and had a recognisable waist in her 80s.

(I, however, was obsessed with my weight from age 12 onwards. I can’t

blame my mum, she just wasn’t interested in stuff like that!)
