We had a trial run when Mr HB broke his hip - one of us can live downstairs but if it were to be a permanent arrangement I’d want the downstairs loo to be knocked into the utility room to make a proper wet room

We've only lived in four places in our 45 years of marriage but I certainly expect to move once more. It's not just the house - we could live on the ground floor quite easily - but as a neighbour said the other day, 'The older you get the bigger the garden gets'!

That is very true, LD. My dad is still managing his larger than average grounds well, but it takes him a lot longer these days.

My mother has a sizeable garden and It's nothing but a trouble to her. Mrs G loves her gardening but is already finding it difficult at times. I don't think we'd ever want to totally lose a garden but a smaller one would be practical.

We are too young to be thinking about bungalows as yet, especially while we still have dependent children. We talk about moving nearer to the sea, but we also love where we live and I’m pretty certain Mrs D wouldn’t want to be too far from her children and friends, especially if she’s only got me for company

I grew up in a 3 storey house, plus cellar, so stairs were part of life.
This week I'm in a 3 storey holiday home (kitchen/dining on the lowest, then lounge & front door on the 'ground' and bed & bathroom on the 1st). It's the only thing stopping my legs seizing completely after 2 days of SWCP.
Oh - plus the walk down to a takeaway and back each evening, which is hill test in itself.

I'd say two more moves in us at least. We're moving when LittleD leaves school because OH hates it here.

Since my m-i-l was widowed last year and as she is housebound (and we live miles away), we have been so grateful for online grocery deliveries, the twice weekly milk deliveries, the weekly butcher deliveries and the daily paper boy! There's a lot to be said for living in a small northern town :-)

I hope I’m going to see out my days in this house! Unless we win the lottery!
