My Mum had one installed. She’d put her ironing on it, send it up stairs, and then crawl up the stairs on her hands and knees! 🤦‍♂️

My mum put the vacuum cleaner on hers and managed to poke a hole in the ceiling by so doing.

I don't have room for an elevator, great glass or otherwise. I don't really have room for a stairlift either. It would be less expensive to have the downstairs bog repaired and just forget that we have an upstairs.

I'm not moving again.

I'm torn between "I'm not moving again" and "this house would be difficult to future-proof fully and I'd like to be living in a bigger town when I'm old".

We've moved house about five times in the last ten years or so but regard the current house as permanent. That said, I can see difficulties with stairs and if we can't drive in a few years. Being near to a good town centre with its amenities would be useful.

This house could be future proofed quite easily, but I don’t want to pay council tax or pay to heat more floors than we need. I’m ready to downsize and move, husband isn’t.

I quite like your little town, V’rap wouldn’t want much bigger - as long as supermarket deliveries were available and there was some form of taxi service.

That’s one thing that worries me about our house - one day one of us might not be able to manage the stairs. It’s an old house and the stairs are steep and do a 90 degree turn.

We have one more move in us. We've lived here for 19 years and will stay whilst my dad is round the corner, so we are close at hand if needed. I had a bungalow before I met Mr GM and look forward to living in one again, in our dotage.
Our downsize will probably cost more than our current house is worth as we are in one of the cheapest parts of the country and we will likely move to a more expensive area.

I like my little town but the house isn't really suited to downstairs living.
