stilldreaming
My dad passed away when he was 63, but had worked all his life on the farm (back with horses when he was a teenager!) and wouldn't have had the energy to do the running and fell walking that I enjoy after such physical work. His ideal days off would be going to the footie (York FC when they were in the League) and Headingley (or watching the village team) for the cricket. I think I've led a very cushy life by comparison 🙂

Watching York FC more recently would probably age one faster than manual labour!

(I've seen them live about 3 times. A while back now. Each time they lost. And in those days they were in the lowest of the national leagues. I think they play in something like "Blue Circle Northern League Two" nowadays, so I don't suppose they've got any better!)

I'm a toy boy. I hope MrsHL keeps me when my batteries run out.

One of my school friends had an uncle in the year below us. He was "Uncle John" to the whole year group.

I have three nieces and a great-niece. The great-niece is a year older than the youngest niece.

The trouble is, no matter how young you look and how fit you try to keep yourself, there are some things that become much more likely when you get a certain number of miles on the clock. That sounds gloomy but I have a husband and a friend both of whom have developed health issues despite leading pretty blameless lives and in OH's case, having parents who lived to 93 and 101. I suppose the positive side is that if you do keep a healthy lifestyle you are better placed to weather these unavoidable declines. Up to a point, anyway.

LD, I'm finding exactly that. Various doctors have encouraged me to continue with my current activities and exercises because they will give me my chance of dealing with whatever health problems come along.

On the inside, I am in total denial about getting older.

Ness
Mr Ness has suggested that I should consider the potential limits of my resurfaced hip now it is 18 years old. I just keep thinking it’s got a few more miles in it yet!
