My dad when he was old and had dementia couldn't understand why there was this old guy looking at him when he looked in the mirror

Visiting people in residential homes where they put photos of residents on their bedroom doors has made me pick out the photos of each of my parents in their twenties that will be going on their bedroom doors if the need ever arises. Because they weren't always old.

My grandma said to me that when she was 90, she didn't feel much different on the inside to when she was 15, but a quick look down at her hands was enough to make her feel old.
She also said that the idea that age brought wisdom was nonsense, and that the people who were stupid when they were kids still seemed to be stupid 80 years later.

You don’t look like Dad either. I wasn’t joking when I told you they brought the wrong baby home from the hospital.
