I think we all 'believe' we look younger. Ask our kids or grandchildren how old we look and we may not like the answers.

I honestly couldn't care less how I look, but as for fitness and mobility...I remember my average dad briefly breaking into a short-lived trot in his early 40s when chasing me around, and my average uncle playing a bit of football with me at a similar age. For the most part, a brisk walk was the limit of their ambitions. So I don't think it's entirely self-delusion to think that I'm doing a bit better than that!

FF, I know I'm doing better than my Dad did.... by the time he was 60 (.e. 4 days older than I am now!) he was suffering from a whole host of circulatory and respiratory ailments (induced & worsened by tobacco and alcohol in significant quantities!) .

And my boss assumed I was younger than I am until he looked at the HR system when my 2 x 50 year old colleagues were celebrating last month!

Nice sentiment Rosehip about the term "older" but let's face it, when one reaches 70 (I'm 72) we're "old" whether we like it or not and however we look. Nothing wrong with being old and this idea that we're holding on to eternal youth is erroneous--Fenland Flier is right, ask the kids or grandkids or in my case the great grandkids! I'm bloody ancient not only in their eyes but in reality too.
Thankfully I'm in fairly good nik but objectively I look ....about 70 ! And so I should!!

I've also been told I'm younger than I actually am but it doesn't stop kids thinking you're 'old'.

I am "lucky" that most people think I look a lot younger (10-15 years) than I really am. They are very surprised when they find out my true age!
Even when I was 18 people mistook me for 15 y.o. - a huge difference at that age.

A nurse when I took my mum to hospital last month questioned the dates I was giving in relation to mum's medical history as she didn't believe I could have been 5 in 1972. It's always nice when people think you are younger than you are, especially when it's 5-10 years younger.

Funnily enough, when I was younger I was always able to pass as older and get served in pubs and offies without question from the age of 15. Mind you, it was a bit easier in those days.

I went half on the bus till I was 20, but my jawline is sagging now, I haven’t coloured my hair for over 19 years and I don’t care! I still sound young!

I've had to grow a beard just so that I can get served in the pub.

:) Angus

I was definitely catching the bus as a "half" until I was 20 - and then getting served in the pub when I got there without issue - but it was easier to do both then.

I look my age, or I think I do - what I meant was folks of my age 40 years ago looked a lot older.
