There was about a 30 year gap in my case, HOD, so I guess not.

Wow, Cerrertonia! I'm guessing they didn't make a cast of the tooth before they took it out to sculpt a replacement!

I am not an implant expert HoD. But the answer is 'it varies'. One technique can put the implant in the hole left by the tooth extraction. But if you need a bone graft healing will take much longer. A conventional implant maybe 6 months to a year after the extraction.
There is also time needed for the implant to 'osseointegrate' (heal into the bone). During this time there is no tooth attached, but you would have something temporary over the top if appearance was an issue.

I'm having a bit of gyp from my lower right wisdom tooth. It's pushing on a molar and I'm getting gum bleeding. Dentist said the bleeding wasn't anything to worry about, but would like me to have the wisdom out at some stage. I went "whoah!" three months ago and put my blinkers on. Never been under GA. Hoping it stays at the "just a bit of gyp" stage for some time.

My ‘photo’ from 1973 is the painting up in the attic, once charitably described by MadameR as “a heap of smouldering dust”.

GlennR, a painting in the attic? “A picture of Dorian Gray” springs to mind. Is this the secret to your eternal youth?

It’s certainly Madame’s theory.
