I managed to escape at the tender age of 42.
I loved infants and junior school then hated senior school. Reports were always "could try harder" but I never got it. I fell into a job in a bank and got redundancy nearly 25 years later and managed to survive with being beholden to anyone since.

Flippin eck Rose, retired at 42 is fab! Well jel! I won't be able to retire before 60. Probably be working til I'm 80 if MrsS(rrr) keeps buying horses at the speed she has been!

I would not, however, have been able to contemplate retirement if anyone in my household had a horse-buying habit.

My full pension kicks in at 55, but I’m sort of already retired.

I took quite early retirement at 57 - not because it was a "rat race" but due to the horrible people with whom I worked who made my life hell, and also the vocation had changed from being focussed on patients' diagnoses to following administrative procedures.
