Yes, the tone is a bit relentless, and I keep thinking 'You're talking about being 50 - I didn't even start running 'til I turned 50! I need a book called 'Even Older! Faster, Stronger' Nonetheless, I like the thought that instead of thinking about weight *loss*, I should think about swapping fat for muscle. If only... |

Even just thinking about retaining muscle, irrespective of fat, is A Very Good Thing as we get older.

57.5 Degrees of Pain
It would be nice to find out that thinking about retaining muscle was all we needed to do. It is the moving from thought to action that can be tricky ;-).

That occurred to me as I hit the submit button, 57.5 If only wanting to retain muscle was all it took. I have made changes from a decade ago with bone mass and muscle retention in mind; I'm more afraid of fractures, sarcopenia and frailty than I am of any of the other potential consequences of getting older. But I don't have enough hours in the day, or enough recovery capacity, to keep doing weight training all year round. |

That's quite cool, Runningfoxx I have Joe Friel's "Fast After Fifty". It could be condensed as, "Choose intensity over volume and stop eating carbohydrate." |

I posted something on the parkrun thread about tail "walkers" and then I noticed that the tail walker behind my mate was VM 75-79 and took a closer look and … well, you have a look. parkrun.org.uk I reckon there is a bit of a story in there. Must ask my mate if he had a chat with him at all on the way. |
