Might have an effect alpen, but it's certainly not 'just' that. Raffo and I both listened to the same source - I heard Yanny (as I think most women will) and he heard Laurel.

Greg it's a recording of someone saying something and some people hear the word(?) 'Yanny' and others hear 'Laurel'.

57.5 Degrees of Pain
I used to have a less than attentive dog called Laurel. Maybe all she heard was me shouting Yanny?

One of my children (when very small) used to say "yeyow" (for "yellow"), while another one used to say "lellow". I thought it indicated what they could (or couldn't) get their tongue(s) round, but maybe it was how they heard it.

I hear yanny, along with everyone else in my family. There is a scientific explanation somewhere about why some people hear yanny and others hear Laurel. But, like most 'science', it's a bit iffy.

Okay. I found a Guardian thing on YouTube. If I’m backed into a corner it’s Yanny, but what I hear is ‘Yally’.
