Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

- Bedford Tri looks fun, hope the water isn't too goose-y along the river there!

I would have Rosehip, but the reason you're over here is because I am not allowed out!

Hi folks long time no see - just popping in for a bit of advice. A friend and I have decided to do the Ullswater swim next year - so about 7 miles - eek. It’s in July so 11 months training time.

I probably need to think about drills and all sort of pool related stuff that I usually don’t bother with. Do I need a watch to track laps/times etc if so which one? I used to have a Garmin swim but lost it :(.

All thoughts greatly appreciated

Hi Tomsmum

Do you do much OW swimming currently?

Do you have wetsuits etc?

The pool will be useful in raising swim fitness and endurance. Always worth making sure your stroke is as effective and efficient as possible by improving technique.

I’d say you really need plenty of OW time too though.

Swimming in a wetsuit feels different, there’s no ends to push off from, you need to be able to ‘sight’ and the water will be significantly cooler.

I don’t know your experience so sorry if I’m telling you stuff you already know and do.

For pool based training, do you have a Tri club near you? They’ll focus on front crawl technique and usually inc some OW skills too.

I do my pool training with my local Tri club though I no longer do tris.

Hope that helps.
