I am. I want to keep the mileage where it is this year (or possibly look at a slight increase after Brighton/Windermere). I'm doing the same "sessions" as before, but the pace is higher simply because I'm better conditioned.

Like NP, my PB was off the back of my highest mileage month - 50+ miles per week. My first sub 3.45 was also off the back of high(er) mileage. I'm going to see if I can get up to 60mpw at some point this year and go for it again, see what time I can get then.

Gobi - I think the average man is supposed to be younger than you ;-)

Can't remember what age is the cut off actually, but I know it was the average man under a certain age. I assume it was 40 as that used to be the start of the veteran category.

Lol, don't think you'd get very good odds on that bet ;-)

Gobi - I had planned to enter a marathon later this year - so I should ditch that in favour of the shorter runs? Also while doing the shorter stuff should I be slowly working on upping my mileage north of 30? oh and no worries about the mail you gave me the initial answer I was looking for... now I just need to make it happen.

DG I hadn't seen your stats but again you're very close to Naomi circa 5hrs down to sub 3:30 and in a couple of years. I notice you did that on the back of small mileage in comparison to 50+ What was the big thing in your training that made it happen?

If it's under 35 then I've missed the boat :-(... but I'll be 40 in 2016 hence the target!

I wonder what Ms Average 45+ Female Runner could do with focused training?

At the moment my running progress has gone into reverse :(

SB - I'm 43 this year and could run a sub 3 without too much drama.

I would skip the marathon and focus on the shorter stuff as I said on the other page. The more base you can build running up to around 15 miles the stronger you will be.

Miles will always come to down to taste and time. I use to enjoy doing 80-120 miles a week as it felt normal but then I ran a sub 3 off about 50 miles a week if that much so you certainly don't need the BIG miles.
