Wasn't sure, he'd done one recently so thought he might again.

Always a slight risk his sudden hype might wear off.
I keep trying to stress "sustainable" to him.

@stevieg Some people just can't be told though!

Decent session last night, on the driveway & paths of the golf club

5 x 800 off 80 - 2.32, down to 2.26 for the last
5 x 400 off 80 - 70, down to 66 for the last one

In London today, train to Bedford later to watch Ollie try and get his PB at the Doug Anderson 5k, the scene of my 5k PB. When they sensibly ran it the fast way round....

@LBAC Si I like the variety of locations your lot use for sessions. Casual club champs 5k win as well!

Sorry to hear covid has again affected things, @Muddyfunster. Solid result in the circumstances.

Great to hear about your daughter’s wedding @Forrest Jooligan. Photos looked lovely. Thanks for the entry last night. Well organised, especially with the weather! Hope your legs are fully back to it soon. More importantly, how does the foot feel? Sorry I didn’t ask last night.

Actual 5k pace in a solo session on less than ideal routes isn’t bad, @stevieg.

Cracking evening at @Forrest Jooligan’s Blaisdon. Race blog: fetcheveryone.com/blog/55074/2024/7

Nice report, paints a decent picture of the surroundings.
And you look like a lucky youngster who has won a radio competition to meet a big name rocker from the local hit parade.

Morning 9 for me.
Added the extra trail approach then more fiddly climb than the customary 0.2mile steep but unimpeded grass hill bank.
This version has a dodgy short narrow path ducking under trees then a style then a slog up a hill questioning why.

Friday is a 20-24 x200m pairs sesh.

Does anyone have any suggestion how 200s in pairs on the track would actually work?

Simply a case of Start at same place then just judge when they've finished to set off then just follow them every rep?
Or something more complex of starting on opposite ends of the track and some reps you meet your pal others you don't?

200m pairs tends to start at the middle of one straight and you run around the track to the middle of the opposite straight where you tag your partner and then you jog across the infield (about 70m) while they do their 200m.

I think you're right @philip_m_jones .
I'm sure I heard someone talking about 100m, I'll take your 70m as more accurate.

Sounds like it could be easy to blow up if we're assuming the 20 to 24 reps is each not a duo's total!!

Even if you do them say 40seconds each that'll build up if you're spending say 30seconds of that jogging across!!

@stevieg 😆. To be fair, @Forrest Jooligan is as close to a rock star as I’ll ever get.

Suspect @philip_m_jones has nailed it.

Double recovery yesterday. Stiff. Still stiff today. Only window was 1300 which coincided with 25C so took it slow and easy. 15M at 8:10 pace. 300m ascent round some nice Cotswold country lanes. Passed a very nice pub, the Royal Oak - unsurprisingly famous for the big oak tree outside. To my dismay it has been largely chopped down apparently due to disease. But to be fair, an impressive carving of, I assume, King Charles (?) hiding away.

Pushing 30 degrees type fare by 6pm on the track last night, but was ok.

Fortunately, sense prevailed and they dropped the crazy pairs with across track jog recovery (that they still reckoned was more 100m than 70m), and we instead did the 200s in teams of 3.

Well, ours was 4 as 2 lads went together as Leg 3.

Because the coach was doing the original sessions solo with a walk across the track, they put cones for the 200m parts, rather than using the proper mark on the track!

Therefore, we realised after rep 2 that one cone was on the wrong place.

Therefore, odd reps were 38x and even reps 33x
Pretty much all like that bar the last 2 1 second quicker and perhaps 1 of each a second slower. So nice consistency.

Probably evened out with the "xx" factored in can say it was a 36sec average, which will do for 24 of the reps in that heat.

Pub drinks after with half the gang, to celebrate the end of a nice block after. Over until early Sep now.

About This Thread

Hi there - this thread started in 2010 over on RW and started as an improvement thread for myself under Moraghan's coaching, through to more of a general collaboration tool and place to share training and long winded race reports.

Thanks to the fetch community for allowing us to move over, and we'd welcome loads of new contributors adding to the thread, as we were definitely running on empty with a small bunch of posters near the end!
