@Windsor Wool @SPR I do feel they have failed prematurely but I purchased two pairs in October 2022 and these are the second of those 2 so I suspect any warranty has long since passed. I tend to get more miles out of a pair of shoes than suggested so I reckon I am probably still ahead of the curve. I'd be very nervous about glueing shows back together: I know that is what the manufacturers do but if I did it myself and they failed mid-run I'd blame myself.

@philip_m_jones Nike's warranty is two years IIRC from when my XC spikes failed. I guess the question will be whether they class is a normal wear and tear but it looks too fresh for that in the pic.

Well done @

Yes the Sri Chimnoy is very popular these days, big turn out from HHH as usual.

philip_m_jones wrote:It looks like you had a good run there, @stevieg. The race looks to be stacked: 18 dead only gets you 168th overall and behind the first M60! I am not sure what my views on Sri Chinmoy and their "vets start at 50" stance is. Do you track your progress on e.g. www.runbritainrankings.com? I know it is an arbitrary scale but it tended to agree with my gut feelings so when I was in a good spell my handicap fell.

That V50 thing is most unusual, but I appreciated it once, where on a bank hol Monday, the standard was a bit lower than usual, and I came 8th, and was awarded the 7th senior man medal!
A medal for 7th, unreal :-)

The standard is utterly daft. Wave 1 potentially had 275 or so sub 18 runners, probably more 170-180 or so in that wave in the end, as I expect with the cheap entry price, people just pay for the whole series and miss 1 or 2 races, but know they're booked if they do want to race.

Am sure I saw a V50 do about 15.20 or something.

I've never been a fan of Run Britain, your handicap has to be kept topped up, otherwise you find you're suddenly 3.5 or something because you haven't raced much.
It used to give too much weight to parkruns too, where if you raced them, you'd come out higher in the vSSS because many don't, so you'd benefit from a higher day's comparison v the field.

I've still got a race from November in my top 5, so that probably says it all.

Need to get a few decent sessions in before a couple more cracks at 5k next month.
Will probably entertain a "run" race such as the Murder Mile and maybe a parkrun the day after too.

Signed up for the Dashers pair relays, that's a great little race that also serves as a quality training session too. With huge recoveries, while your partner does their leg, you can really boot the reps.

@stevieg Without looking I know Chris Greenwood was running so that would be the 15.20 V50. Andy Bond was sub 16 too and I know Che from Kent did 16.15 or so.

A vet 45 won the 3000 at Watford last night in 8.33.

So - managed to warm up properly last night, warmed up with my mates Rob and Mo from our training group (in pic).

I was in race 3 of the 2nd lot.

Got left behind as usual, bit of jostling but went through 400 in about 66/67. Didn't feel as good as I thought I would, air quite muggy. Through 800 in 2.15 which was still ok. Got stuck in a bit of a rolling block just infront of me and had to check a couple of times so got to the bell at 3.09, not great.

Anyway tried to put a spurt on last lap, over the line for 4.17.3. Not as good as I had hoped,, but ok nevertheless.

Ollie happy though, ran 10.21 for a PB in the 3000 later.

I was chatting to someone at the start line at Battersea Park who I clocked had a head cam on, so was just seeing if anything made Youtube.

Couldn't find that, but did find this clip, of a geezer running the first km, literally a second or so behind me.
Slightly weird gait from everyone as you can get with these in motion clips, but shows what a dream route it is, and how packed the field was!

Re-started the 12 sesh 5k plan today then
8x600, 2x400, 2x200, off (90s, 60s, 30s).

From the front door on the surrounding pavement and road loops, rather than going to the track, so the obvious difference in pace.

However, simply aimed for quicker than the 5.43 pace of Tuesday's race

600s, 2.02, 4x2.04, 3x2.06 (av paces ranging from 5.31 - 5.42)
400s, 1.19x, 1.21x (av paces 5.16-5.27)
200s, 38, 41 (av paces 5.17-5.41)

You get the occasional little bit that throws the rhythm slightly, but that's the beauty of road loops sometimes, more like a race than the ideal smooth, no obstacles track stuff.

But for outright 200s or 400s you do need a track I think.

About This Thread

Maintained by stevieg
Hi there - this thread started in 2010 over on RW and started as an improvement thread for myself under Moraghan's coaching, through to more of a general collaboration tool and place to share training and long winded race reports.

Thanks to the fetch community for allowing us to move over, and we'd welcome loads of new contributors adding to the thread, as we were definitely running on empty with a small bunch of posters near the end!
