It's only 16ºc here today after temperatures in the high 20s for a while. It is feeling much colder.

Felt the first stirrings of a hot flush yesterday after about 8 months on Oestrogel etc. Slapped a bit more gel on to chase it away. They're not invited back in!

Possibly not menopause related but does anyone else suffer from cracked nails? Over the last few years I've started getting vertical splits in some of my fingernails and I haven't found a fix. I keep my nails as short as possible but I've currently got 4 with the issue and it's so annoying as they keep catching on stuff.

More likely to be a nailbed issue than a menopause issue, LN.

OK, I thought I might be clutching at straws ;-)

Wonder if it's because I have to wash my hands so much at work. The liquid soap is really horrid.

The liquid soap at my last school was pretty horrid, LN. I took my own in in the end, although we weren’t supposed to because of coshh regulations.

Having your hands in water a lot at work (or from compulsive handwashing) can be really hard on them. Mine were a mess when I worked in the neonatal unit from being up to the elbows in Hibiscrub and Betadine all the time.

LN have you tried buffing them? I have one nail with vertical ridges and occasional splits, and I’ve found buffing the surface regularly does help to reduce splitting.

I’ve also noticed that my nails are a stress indicator, they get thin and break easily after stressful times. (Albeit 2-3 months later).
