Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

STOOSH do you have a Decathlon near you? If so then go there. Their tights are good and a fraction of the price of the big brands. They also pack down really well. I've carried them for all of my LL races.

+1 for the comment from flyingfinn.

Go expensive if you're going to wear them for hours, but the emergency tights are for exactly that, an emergency. So either Decathlon, or you can get amazingly cheap tights from Amazon (non-branded).

Thanks, theres a decathlon in Edinburgh which is about the closest to me but I'll probably just order them online from them if I can't get through!

Trying to get accommodation in the Lakes at the end of June is a nightmare . Planning to recce some of the course but may end up a day trip instead of the 2 nights i'd planned. If it was a daytrip and i'm willing to cover up to 30-35m without any out and backs, what would be the best part of the route logistic wise would be best anywhere between Buttermere and Ambleside?
Obviously this will be a last resort and hope to find something so my wife chauffer can do drop offs and pickups ;-)

Having a similar dilema - I have a camping pitch booked, though not yet sure I can use it - but I'm going to have to be self-sufficient for any recceing I can do.

Ambleside to Coniston is fairly straightforward using the 505 bus (get a day rider ticket) but other than that I don't have a clue

Thanks Rosehip, i've run that section a couple of times over the last couple of years so wasn't planning on doing it this time.
I'm trying to drag my wife and 2 babies along aswell as the sister in law ( for child care duties ;-) ) which make finding accommodation a little bit more of a task.

For this year you have left it a bit late, it's surprising how many people can take holidays before the English schools break up

STOOSH I think if I was very limited to how much I could recce I would look at trying to cover the Wasdale to Braithwaite section (you could extend to Keswick if you wanted more distance but that's largely a road run and if I was going to do more I'd get a lift to Keswick and run the loop to Threlkeld).

At your likely pace that is the bit that will be in the dark, you may well find yourself on your own, their are a few tricky turns and it is rough underfoot in places.

One way to do it without driving all the way round to Wasdale (and consequently helping your family arrangements) is to run over to Wasdale either from Honister via the Moses Trod or from Seathwaite via Styhead Tarn. I'd go for the former I think. The family could then drive down to Buttermere and meet you there before driving over Newlands Pass to collect you in Braithwaite. There isn't much driving, there are cafes at Honister and Buttermere and Buttermere in particular is family friendly. Some of your running will be off the race route but it will be a good training day and relatively relationship friendly.

Wasdale from Honister over Moses Trod is a great approach. If you go down from Styhead check out the β€˜valley route’. It’s in the Wainwright book

I enjoyed the route from Seathwaite to Stockley Bridge/Sty Head and joining Moses Trod just before getting to Wasdale Head.
